Very Rev. Dr. Stephen Thottathil, born on 9 May 1952 hails from Karimpinamkuzhy, Ranni, Kerala, India in the Archieparchy of Tiruvalla. His parents are Philip and Mariamma. After High School education in Ranni he joined the Infant Mary Minor Seminary of Tiruvalla. He studied at Papal Seminary Pune and completed bechelor’s degree in Philosophy and Theology at Jnana Deepa Vidyapeeth Pune. He was ordained priest for the then Eparchy of Tiruvalla on 27 April 1979 by Most Rev. Isaac Mar Yoohanon. He also completed his Master’s Degree in Theology from Jnana Deepa Vidyapeeth Pune. After a few years of pastoral experience he did his Doctorate in Moral Theology at the Academia Alfonsiana Rome. Besides his ministry as Parish Priest, he served the Eparchy of Tiruvalla as the Rector of the Minor Seminary, Director of the Malankara Catholic Youth Movement andAssociate Administrator and later Director of Pushpagiri Hospital. He also served the Archieparchy of Tiruvalla as its Administrator when the See was vacant in the year 2003. From 2003 to 2006 he was the Protosyncellus of the Eparchy. Fr. Stephen Thottathil who was the Rector of the St. Mary’s Malankara Seminary during years 2000-’03 is presently serving the same seminary as the Dean of the Faculty of Theology. Besides Malayalam and English he knows Italian, German and Syriac.

Rev. Fr. Mathew Passed Away
Rev. Fr. Vayalil Mathew (Joby) of the Archieparchy of Tiruvalla and the vicar of Perumpadavam and Peruva parishes is called to eternal rest. While riding his motor cycle he met with an accident at Trippunithura on 26th December 2009. Fr. Mathew son of Late V.P. Joseph and Selina joined Infant Jesus Minor Seminary for priestly formation. He completed philosophy training at St. Mary’s Malankara Seminary, Trivandrum and theological formation at Regional Major Seminary Ujyain. He was ordained a priest on 10 April 2007 and served at Aladi and Anavilasom parishes. The unexpected demise of Fr. Mathew, the young and energetic and enthusiastic priest is a great lost to the Malankara Catholic Church, particularly to the Archieparchy of Tiruvalla.

COMMUNITY RADIO STATION WAS STARTED AT MACFAST,
TIRUVALLA KERALA

With the Permission of Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India, Mar Athanasios College for Advanced Studies, Tiruvalla (MACFAST) Kerala atarted a COMMUNITY RADIO STATION. With this Community Radio Station, the number of CRS was increased to 46 in the country. The Ministry encourages setting up the Community Radio Station as it promises to provide an opportunity to the local communities to be actively involved in welfare activities.
The Tiruvalla College has several innovative programs, such as CAP (Community awareness program), SALT (Social Awareness and Leadership Training) programs which are aimed at sensitizing the student community about the needs and requirements of the society. The college also has an active forum called MSS (Macfast Service Scheme) which has conducted several programs like, clean and green campus drive, campaign to eradicate breeding areas of mosquitoes to prevent contagious disease like chikengunias and disseminating information regarding importance of water harvesting etc. As a step forward in its mission to serve the society more effectively, the Mar Athanasios College for Advanced Studies is looking forward to setting up a community radio station with the objective of focusing on issues relating to education, health, environment, agriculture and rural community development and also to transform young people and mould them into value driven, culturally enriched and professionally competent change agents who would significantly contribute to improving their immediate community, the state, the country and the world at large.
